Managed Care Blues

I just had the pleasure of listening to some health care comedic music by Dr. Sam Bierstock and the Managed Care Blues Band, "Capitation Blues" from the CD "Minimal Services - CPT 99211". It is refreshing to know that there are real industry participants singing the truth about the state of our health care delivery system. Dr. Sam is not only entertaining, he is a real contributor. Laughter sure is good medicine. Take a listen.

Health Care Reform Perspective

Most ventures in the health care space begin with the simple thought of making a meaningful contribution to health care. Each company / entity stems from a common thread of providing a service to enhance life and improve our health system for the good [well, at least they should]. At the onset, there are the high hopes of how we will capture the market or even get that health care tiger by the tail. Many of us have been there or have at least participated in such a venture.

In all honesty - these attempts are usually futile due to the corrupt system that we attempt to plug into. True, most times, throwing out the baby with the bath water is not what's called for - however, in the case of our corrupted, outdated, over-the-top budgeting, non-patient centered, non-doctor centered, deep pocketed health care system that is so vital to the health and future of our nation - I have to disagree with the notion that we can continually revive this dead horse with the CPR of implementing a new solution for this or that. Folks, our health care system has been in the flatline zone for YEARS! HELLO?

You may question my perspective on this - how does she know? Well, it's not rocket science - if you are breathing and have ever had to try and get care in this country - you most likely know that the health care system is not working for the people! Our health care system was not orchestrated in a board room with a central theme, budget and goal and consideration for all Americans and then launched. Folks, think about it - our health care system is something that was pieced together on-the-come in a competitive business fashion - oft times - as unpleasant as it is to discover and believe - it's based on revenues!

Don't get me wrong, I am just as in favor of entrpenuerial business practices and profits as the next American, however, perhaps - just perhaps - health care is not the place for betting the odds? Actuaries betting against your health? Does that sound like where we should be heading with our futures - my hope is that each person would think it through and get involved in HEALTH REFORM - it's for YOU TOO! http://www.myhealthylifestyleusa.com/ http://www.healthreform.gov/ http://www.healthcaretownhall.com/

NHS Supports President Obama's Establishment of the White House Office of Health Reform

Mission: "Reforming the health care system is a key goal of my Administration. The health care system suffers from serious and pervasive problems; access to health care is constrained by high and rising costs; and the quality of care is not consistent and must be improved, in order to improve the health of our citizens and our economic security." Do we need to know more? If our President, who is completely engulfed in solving the financial crisis, terrorist / war crisis and housing crisis in this country, finds it important enough to establish a platform for health reform now, we had better know - this is serious! President Obama has stepped up where no one else has and I support him 100%. Yes, he may make some errors - who doesn't? What he has demonstrated in his short term in office commands my respect and it should command yours. How many Presidents have talked the talk but never walk the walk? I have personally lost count. I say it's time to get on track with action and I am personally going to lend myself to whatever I can do to assist in the process of cleaning up health care.

This week is the official Workplace Wellness Week and in honor of this, NHS is launching a campaign called "My Healthy Lifestyle® USA". American Health Care in Crisis

Mission: Aid in improving the system through delivery of new solutions w/wellness focus and continuum of care.

In all of my days in health care, I have never seen a stronger desire on the part of government & people or the need for action to improve health care for all. It's everywhere; I am including a couple of motivating links that validate my vision for a new model. We have a unique opportunity and advantage [though we are fairly small in size right now] to launch some very cost effective solutions to get the results that will cause a paradigm shift thinking about what health care is all about which is what is needed; each individual being educated and taking responsibility for their health: Living Well, preventing the [often times] unnecessary costs associated with lifestyle diseases due to over-eating, smoking, lack of exercise and the list goes on! Personally, I get very motivated when I see these videos of our top thought leaders struggling for the answer and buy in from stakeholders. For too long, there has been a band aid mentality; I believe it's too late for that - we'll have to operate! :):) There seems to be no other way out now - which is good because change is what's really needed!
